Dr. Monika Barakat received her Bachelor’s of Art in Biology in 1999 from Kean University and her DMD degree from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, formerly New Jersey Dental School, in 2003. She went on to pursue further post-graduate training as part of a dual degree program at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.
In addition to three years of specialty training in the orthodontic department, for which she was awarded a Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics, she also pursued and earned a Master of Science in Dentistry Degree in 2006.
Over the course of the next 10 years, Dr. Barakat moved from New Jersey to Arizona, and continued to dedicate herself to practicing orthodontics in large practices, small private practices, and as an independent consultant.
She always dreamt of opening up her own practice, with the goal of demanding excellence of herself and those around her for the best possible patient outcomes. Soon after moving to Arizona and had found a home, she began to pursue that dream: after nearly two years of planning, Opus 1 Orthodontic Studio opened its doors in 2016.
Dr. Barakat is an active member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and the Arizona Orthodontic Study Group. She regularly attends conferences and continuing education courses to keep up to date with the latest in orthodontic technology so that she can provide the highest quality treatments for her patients.
Scottsdale Braces
Braces with Opus 1 Orthodontic Studio are an excellent choice for correcting complex oral issues. Since the self-ligating braces systems Dr. Barakat uses can sometimes work faster at aligning teeth and closing gaps than other treatments might, overall treatment time may be reduced. Braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. They’re made out of metal or ceramic brackets that are affixed to the teeth, then connected by wires. Self-ligating braces eliminate the need for elastic bands, so there will be less friction placed on your teeth during treatment. Over time, gentle pressure and regular adjustments with Dr. Barakat will gradually move your teeth into more optimal, healthier positions!
Scottsdale Clear Aligners
Spark and InBrace clear aligners are incredibly popular with patients and orthodontists in Scottsdale, and is the top alternative to traditional braces. Instead of brackets and bands, the Spark or InBrace systems use a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth.
Clear aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and customized to fit snugly over your teeth. To keep your teeth moving in the direction you want them to, you’ll need to switch your invisible trays out for the next one in the series every 1-2 weeks as directed by Dr. Barakat.
The Spark or InBrace systems can only work if the recommended guidelines are closely followed! Aligners should be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment. If patients neglect to wear the aligners as directed, it can impede the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.
Clear aligners are at its most efficient when correcting many of the most common orthodontic issues. For some complex cases, clear aligners may not be a good option.
